If you are anything like our team, you are probably sitting at home right now, working but finding the usual routines are disrupted, connection with colleagues is more disjointed, the isolation becomes demotivating. Unless you are also trying to keep as school running at home and then losing yourself in work for a bit might be bliss!
In this remarkable season, we have committed to trying to be positive, tackling each day with every ounce of optimism we can muster, determined to do what we can to support colleagues across the road safety sector.
So, our small contribution is this…
Over the next few weeks, we are going to be hosting a whole series of online seminars as part of our commitment to the wider highways sector. Our goal is to create a learning community, where we explore key and emerging themes in road safety, providing opportunity for both development and discussion.
The typical session will be around 30-40mins, involve a bit of presentation content from some of the team, then move into discussion of the topic at hand.
You can join in with any of the sessions whenever they are running, they are, of course, free to attend. To give a bit of structure to it, we have created some strands to the programme in order to highlight which sessions might be of greater value to different audiences:
There is no need to stay within one of the strands, you can pick any or all of the sessions that you would like to participate in. All you need to do to join in…
Strategy & Leadership
This strand is designed to help connect managers and leaders with some developing concepts in Road Safety. Starting with the recent Global Ministerial in Stockholm, participants will be given opportunity to explore ways in which international best practice can be implemented through local programmes and partnerships.
Technical & Analytical
This strand will be more focussed on building capabilities to derive understanding from the available data. It will provide some helpful overviews of key data set, analytical approaches, tools and emergent areas of development to be aware of.
Design & Delivery
This strand will explore approaches to designing interventions and, crucially, explore ways in which we can continue to deliver road safety education through digital means when we are unable to work in schools or through community channels.

The 'Ageing and Safe Mobility: 21st Century Streets' webinar series will run throughout the month of June. Each week we will bring you a session looking at different aspects of safe mobility and ageing. The ageing population is well understood as one of the grand challenges facing the UK and many industrialised nations. Meanwhile, mobility in later life is associated with key beneficial effects on well-being, physical health, economic activity and wider community engagement. In this webinar series we will explore a number of the issues impacting on safe mobility in later life, discussing current thinking with the various report authors and leading researchers.
