Agilysis’ pioneering work in Road Safety recognised by Prince Michael Award.

Award Winning Response was ‘Immediate & Innovative’

Agilysis is delighted to announce that our work on supporting the road safety sector during the COVID19 pandemic has been recognised by the Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards.

We have all faced many new challenges during 2020, operating from unfamiliar environments and trying to understand how to continue road safety initiatives. In this context Agilysis set out to support colleagues across the sector and facilitate continuating road safety work through a range of measures.

Having delivered over 40 hours of free webinar training during the early weeks of lockdown, the team turned their attention to rapidly developing a pioneering Covid-19 response planning tool. Launched in July, the Active Streets Assessment Tool ( blends 180 million data points creating the most comprehensive data platform of its kind. All of this was backed up by research into the impact of Covid-19 on road safety and the digitisation of a range of road safety resources, which the judges felt was a timely and effective contribution.

Speaking about the package of measures put in place by Agilysis, HRH Prince Michael of Kent commented: “I was most impressed to learn of the immediate and innovative response that Agilysis was able to make to provide such as comprehensive and effective support for the professional road safety community here in Britain during the current COVID-19 pandemic.”

Starting just one week into the lockdown period, Agilysis launched the Standing Together series of webinars to engage with road safety professional. The webinars provided an opportunity to use specialists from across the sector to share knowledge, facilitate discussions and learn from practitioners about the support they require. From an examination of global directions in road safety to developing a safe system partnership; from using off-the-shelf analyical tools to looking at the ways in which data science is changing the landscape, much of this webinar content is still available on the Agilysis website here.

In a time of great uncertainty, it was unclear how road safety work could continue, and many practitioners felt isolated. The webinars provided support and inspiration, allowing a global community of practitioners from 35 countries to engage with experts, providing professional development opportunities.

These interactions led to work on the wider suite of resources, in the form of two specific research projects, the development of the Active Streets Assessment Tool and the digitisation of a range of education interventions. Despite the incredibly short development window, the Active Streets Assessment Tool is the most comprehensive data platform of its kind, allowing immediate triaging of the network to identify active travel sites compliant with LCWIP and the new LTN1/20 design guide.
