Agilysis Wins Road Safety Scheme of the Year Award at Highways 2026
We are incredibly excited to announce that Agilysis are the proud winners of the Road Safety Scheme of the Year Award at Highways 2026!
Like the rest of the UK, Scotland faced persistent and complex road safety challenges. Long term casualty reduction had plateaued, and it was increasingly recognised that traditional engineering or enforcement led measures alone would not deliver Vision Zero. Although a Safe System policy framework was in place, the central challenge lay in closing the gap between strategic intent and everyday delivery.
The programme influenced a £36 million road safety funding commitment, ensuring future interventions are better targeted and more effective. By aligning work to a systematic approach towards safety it delivers a reduced risk of ineffective or misaligned road safety schemes thereby improving the severity reduction focus of future investments. Even a marginal reduction in fatal or serious injuries resulting from improved working would significantly outweigh the initial investment, making this a highly cost effective approach to improving road safety outcomes.
Our work in Scotland is built on the principle that a Safe System strategy only works if the organisations delivering it have the culture to back it up.
The work began by assessing Safe System culture across Transport Scotland, local authorities, Police Scotland and partners. Those findings shaped the Safe System Cultural Maturity Playbook, a framework that helps leaders see where their organisation stands and what to strengthen next.
More than 500 practitioners then completed blended training combining eLearning, workshops and face-to-face courses, supported by an online Safe System Manual of 250 practice notes. Independent evaluation found a shift towards more proactive, preventative management of road risk.
This project focused on turning Scotland’s Road Safety Framework ambitions into practical, evidence based action that could be consistently embedded across organisations. It recognised that strategy alone is insufficient without the right culture, capability and leadership to deliver it. We are immensely proud of our team!
Congratulations to everyone at Transport Scotland, and thank you to the Highways Awards for their recognition.
