Recruitment

Data Engineer

Location: Agilysis’ Banbury office, and other locations as required (including client premises and home working)

Are you looking to make a difference in your next role? How about helping us achieve safer roads around the world by leveraging a wide variety of data sources to identify hidden patterns and trends in big data.

We are a successful business specialising in transport data and safety with a team of around 20 people led by its passionate directors. We have invested in the creation of various online analytical tools and a large data warehouse to support our work with clients in the UK and overseas. The time has come for a major overhaul of our systems and we need you to take us forward, working alongside a team of experts.

We are moving in exciting directions and need a new team member with a very particular set of skills to take us to the next level. The world of data management is changing and our increasing use of geospatial data, including road network information from a variety of sources, means we need to invest in new technologies and systems. The person joining us will lead the implementation of these new systems, strongly supported by our Data Scientist, Technical Director, CTO, Analytics Manager, and other team members with significant historic experience of the data we use.
You should have a passion for data management and experience of developing and maintaining systems including SQL Server and PostgreSQL. You will be responsible for automating and documenting processes for the import and export of data from multiple sources including simple flat tables, through to APIs provided by our data partners. Delivering processed data to team members for use in the creation of our analytical solutions will also be a key part of the role, as will the supply of data for our advanced research projects covering countries all over the world.
There are other skills we value too. Perhaps you have experience in managing data platforms hosted via AWS or Azure; maybe you have programming skills, perhaps adapting them to help deliver reproducible analytical pipelines alongside our data science team; you could have geospatial analysis skills with experience of software such as ArcGIS or qGIS.
As a passionate and dynamic team, we want to make sure that our next appointment is a great fit for our company. You will, of course, be great at working with a team of enthusiastic experts, but also be driven by your own work and responsibilities, taking pride in delivering innovative solutions to support the team and our clients.
We don’t expect candidates to have experience of our sector, although exposure to transport data including road networks, administrative geographies, incident information and surveys will be helpful. A passion for data and ‘place’ along with demonstrable experience of delivering change within organisations will set you apart from the crowd.

Our team adopt hybrid working practices with everyone spending significant time in our Banbury office. The right working pattern for you can be discussed at interview and reviewed regularly during your appointment, but we do expect you to attend the office for at least half of the week as you learn from the experts in the team.

If you want an opportunity to be part of the team, please read the job description and person spec then fill in the form below, attaching your CV and covering letter. In your covering letter, we expect you to include:

  • Your motivation for applying;
  • Explain why you are a strong fit for our team, listing relevant skills and experience;
  • Specify your current location and hybrid working expectations if chosen.

If you do not submit this information, your application will not be considered.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Data Scientist

Location: Agilysis’ Banbury office, and other locations as required (including client premises and home working)

Are you passionate about applying your data science skills to help others? Would you like to work on a variety of projects for global players such as The World Bank and World Health Organisation to improve health outcomes; as well as helping governments achieve their ambitions to halve road deaths by 2030?

We are a successful business specialising in transport data and safety with a team of around 20 people led by its passionate directors. We have delivered projects leveraging data science and big data to inform investments and direct policy both home and abroad. Based in Oxfordshire we work with clients from many different sectors to help understand emerging issues and develop solutions. Hopefully you can join our team and work alongside other passionate experts to make people’s lives safer.

We are moving in exciting directions and are expanding our team with a need for someone to manage existing work and develop new areas. The person joining us will work alongside our Data Engineer, Technical Director, CTO, Analytics Manager, and other team members with significant historic experience of the data we use.

You should have a passion for data science with practical experience of tools such as R Studio including R Markdown, Shiny, Quarto, PostgreSQL, PostGIS or others. Our development has been focussed through R for the last five years so experience here is essential. You will be responsible for maintaining reproducible analytical pipelines, automating and documenting processes, supporting applications and solving new problems. We have many well-documented processes and applications which means you will be ready to get going from day one.

There are other skills we value too. Perhaps you have wider programming skills with other languages or have delivered front-end solutions? You could have significant data management experience using PostgreSQL and experience in managing data platforms hosted via AWS or Azure. You could even have geospatial analysis skills with experience of software such as ArcGIS or qGIS.

As a passionate and dynamic team, we want to make sure that our next appointment is a great fit for our company. You will, of course, be great at working with a team of enthusiastic experts, but also be driven by your own work and responsibilities, taking pride in delivering innovative solutions to support the team and our clients.
