Social Media Course in Lincolnshire

October 2, 2017

Each time we run a social media training course something has changed, which makes managing the content a real challenge! This two-day course, run by Richard Owen and Steve Ferris in Lincoln as a part of the RSGB Academy, looks beyond the ‘how’ of social media and instead focusses on ‘why’. This involves thinking critically about how engagement works with different groups and what an effective campaign looks like.

We spent a good deal of time reviewing other social media campaigns, often drawing the conclusion that they were ineffective and resulting in little to no engagement with the target audience. On the positive side we saw many campaigns that used humour and emotion appropriately to reinforce our key messages.

The public sector really struggle to engage effectively with social media and we talked about the problems organisations face when engaging with users and how to manage complaints. Sometimes a simple emoji can be all it needs to diffuse an angry situation! For more information about the course contact Steve Ferris
