RSGB opens applications for new data champions

The RSGB Analysts Champions Network has been running since 2019 with support from Agiylsis, and provides an opportunity for those with skills and expertise in collecting, analysing, and reporting on road safety data to share ideas. Members come from a variety of backgrounds including local authorities, police forces, fire and rescue services, as well as NGOs and consultancies, plus the Department for Transport.

The network is now seeking new members who want to contribute to discussion and debate on collision and casualty data, innovative analytical approaches, research into new areas, and sharing best practice.

The group also helps to shape the RSGB analysts support programme including the successful Joining the Dots conference. Those choosing to take part in the quarterly discussions have to opportunity to share the work they are undertaking locally and signpost others to work being carried out elsewhere. Being a 'Champion' also provides an opportunity to earn CPD credits and network with other specialists.

Will Cubbin, RSGB Research Director and Chair of the group said, "The work of the Champions has covered a wider variety of topics in the past including changes to STATS19 reporting, evaluating innovative research programmes, organising regional meetings, and hosting roundtable events. With the much-anticipated DfT Road Safety Framework appearing this year, and with an expected focus on performance indicators, now is a critical time for the profession to be working together to understand the data landscape supporting safe system approaches".

The programme of work for 2023/24 is currently being decided and will be revealed via the https://roadsafety.network website in due course. For those with a less substantial interest in the topic, but who nevertheless want to engage with other professions, the Analysts Network Microsoft Teams channel provides an excellent place to ask questions and help others. Access to this resource is also available via the website.

If you would like to engage with the analysts network and take part in any of these areas, you can fill out this short form.
