Now into its third year, Agilysis is relaunching the national survey to better understand the state of Safe System implementation throughout Britain. This year, we are introducing a fresh perspective by focusing on culture maturity to assess how well-equipped we are to build capacity and drive progress in road safety.
Supported by the nation’s leading road safety organisations including PACTS, the Road Safety Foundation, Institute of Highway Engineers, Road Safety GB, IAM RoadSmart, Roadsafe, and the RAC Foundation, this year the survey will take a deeper dive into diagnosing the pain points we face nationally with adopting the Safe System.
How seriously are organisations really taking their commitment to the Safe System and how can this be improved? Many leading organisations are now realising that adopting the Safe System also means embracing a changed culture, challenging outdated methods and working to develop their mission, principles and practice if they are really ambitious about delivering a new approach.
With recent changes in government, now is the perfect time for practitioners and Safe System stakeholders to reflect on the priorities and collaborative efforts needed to achieve the best possible safety outcomes for local, regional, and national road networks.
Tanya Fosdick, Research Director at Agiylsis comments “The response to the previous surveys has been incredible. However, when we compare the two previous years of survey results, we saw little improvement in capacity nationally, and that there are strategic and structural challenges we face. This year we’re asking participants to think carefully about organisational culture, leadership and behaviour in the hope that we can begin to diagnose some of the barriers to progress.”
“By participating, you’ll help ensure that local needs and priorities are reflected in building a national picture, aiding in the development of clear recommendation and supporting actions to help you in your work.”
The survey is open to anyone in the road safety community, including anyone from a UK road safety local authority, police force, fire and rescue service, road safety partnership, charity, or private organisation. Anyone will be able to participate, even if someone else from your team has already taken part. We want to build a complete picture at all levels, so would encourage you to share this with your colleagues too.
We won’t ask you for sensitive information, and all your responses will be anonymised when findings are presented. The information it asks is to aid with comparative analysis in different regions to provide you with insight as to how others, like you, are getting on.
The survey will remain open throughout the summer, closing on Friday 13th September 2024, with the findings published in a special webinar taking place on Thursday 24th October.
