Safe System webinar series draws to a close

As another successful webinar series draws to a close, we are committed to continuing to provide support to the sector in the safe system area and anticipate publishing a white paper early in the new year with everything we’ve learned from the recent survey as well as the discussion points covered in each of the webinars.

The webinar series focused on the findings from the survey, what the implications were and how the sector could build capacity to aid in the delivery of a safe system.

The first Safe System Capacity survey was open through the summer to Local Authorities, Police Forces, Fire and Rescue services, Partnerships and Transport authorities. And we are thankful to PACTS, RAC Foundation, Road Safety Foundation, CIHT, RSGB, Roadsafe, Institute of highway engineers and IAM roadsmart for their support in its delivery.

We have committed to running the survey again next year so that we can continue to track progress and hopefully cast the net even wider. We’d also like to thank the guest speakers from these webinars, David Davies from PACTS, Suzy Charman from the Road Safety Foundation, Liz Box from the RAC Foundation, George Henry from Transport Scotland, Mark Kemp from ADEPT, Tony Sharp from the Institute for Highway Engineers, Kate Carpenter on behalf of CIHT, James Gibson from RSGB and Shaun Helman from TRL.

If you have missed any of the webinars, or would like to watch them back again, the recordings are available via our website.

Why do we need 20mph?

Explore the transformative impact of 20mph speed limits with insights from Wales and beyond. Recent data reveals a significant reduction in road casualties following the implementation of 20mph limits in Wales, underscoring their potential to enhance road safety. Agilysis's Traffic Insights report using connected vehicle data highlighted a 2.4mph reduction in average speeds. This aligns with the broader trend of adopting Vision Zero and Safe System methodologies, which prioritize human safety by setting speed limits that reduce fatality risks for pedestrians and cyclists. Discover how these changes are making roads safer and what further measures can be implemented for greater impact.
