Lincolnshire PCC’s Road Safety Summit

November 3, 2017

On Friday 3rd November 2017 Lincolnshire’s first ever Road Safety Summit was held at Belton Woods Hotel in Grantham. Around 100 delegates attended the summit, which was organised by the Police and Crime Commissioner Marc Jones and the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership.

As a part of the opening session, Agilysis CEO Richard Owen presented a specially-commissioned road safety dashboard which highlights trends within the county and exposes differences in casualty rates in different areas.

The dashboard looks at child casualties, young adults, senior casualties, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.  Furthermore there is analysis of those who crash while speeding or drink-driving – importantly highlighting key times of the day and days of the week which can be filtered by local authority district.

The audience were genuinely surprised with some of the results and the aim is to ensure that new road safety interventions in the country use this evidence base as a starting point.

Is 9 Casualties Better Than 10? The challenge of evaluating with a lack of data and what we might do about it

For practitioners and advocates across our sector, Vision Zero is a moral goal, one which rightfully leads to us removing risk and creating layers of protection ‘systemically’ within the Safe System. But as we deliver this change together and casualty numbers on our roads (hopefully) come down, there is a challenge for evaluators: Less Data. How can we tell what works with a scarcity of outcome data?
